Instructional Design
Innovating from Life
Innovating from Life is a suite of self-guided, plug-and-play modules that help instructors introduce the basics of the groundbreaking practice of biomimicry into their own courses. The team responsible for its creation was awarded the 2021 Arizona State University President’s Award for Innovation.
Each module focuses on an organism that exemplifies a particular function, such as: How does nature clean surfaces? How does nature use low-energy processes? Or how does nature recycle waste?
The modules provide:
- A natural history background on the strategies that organisms use to accomplish these functions
- A brief introduction to the practice of biomimicry
- Short profiles of real-world applications in design, architecture, business, engineering or sustainability
- A sample assignment to help students practice creating their own bio-inspired solutions
As an instructional designer on this project, I was responsible for collaborating with SMEs and creating the instructional content for the modules. All of the modules were designed in Articulate Rise and include custom videos and interactions.
