Curriculum Development
Underwater Robotics
Underwater robotics was a partnership between the Shedd Aquarium and the Marine Advanced Technology Education Center. The Shedd Aquarium ran a middle school after-school club program, teacher training, and an annual competition. As part of this partnership, I was asked to author a full underwater robotics curriculum guide for teachers.
As the project lead at the Shedd Aquarium, I was responsible for all aspects of the Shedd side of the partnership, including curriculum writing, project management, and evaluation. I also worked hand-in-hand with grant writing, financial management, and graphic design and presented on this program at the National Science Teachers Association conference.
The final product consisted of a full curriculum that allows teachers to build and test underwater robots in their classrooms.
As a result of my work at the Shedd Aquarium, I was selected by the Ocean Exploration Trust to serve as an Educator-at-Sea on the E/V Nautilus, an ocean exploration vessel headed by Dr. Robert Ballard, the noted oceanographer who located the R.M.S. Titanic. On our expedition, we explored shipwrecks in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Turkey.
